"Lady Meng Jiang Weeps Down The Great Wall"

Lady Meng Jiang and Wan Xiliang (wan means “ten thousand”) were very newly wed when the Emperor Qin conscripted the young man in the construction of the Great Wall. Without any word of her husband for months, Lady Meng Jiang missed him immensely and dreamt of Wan one winter night. He was calling to her, cold in his threadbare clothes. The next day, Lady Meng Jiang set out to bring him warm garments. When she reached the Wall however, she learned that he had passed away. Lady Meng Jiang wailed against the wall, the weight of her grief bringing the wall to collapse, revealing Wan’s bones. In her profound and unbounded sorrow, she threw herself into the sea.

The VESSEL collection is a meditation on what it means to hold, figuratively and literally. Aesthetically inspired by the ceramic tradition of China, each piece in the collection is an intimate reminder of presence and essence in our daily.
